The Observatory publishes its 2022 calendar (with text in French and Dutch)
The Royal Observatory of Belgium published its 2022 calendar. This is the second edition of its annual calendar.
This large calendar (32 cm x 32 cm) is illustrated with beautiful pictures representing the scientific activities of the Observatory. In addition, there is also information on astronomical events, written in French and Dutch, that can be observed with the naked eye or with special solar eclipse glasses. On 25 October 2022, there will be a partial solar eclipse, partially visible in Belgium.
Each month of the calendar also mentions the periods of visibility of the five planets that can be seen with the naked eye (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn). A glossary at the end of the calendar explains the different phenomena mentioned.
In this way, even without any advanced knowledge of astronomy, and without the need to buy a telescope, the public will have the opportunity, while enjoying beautiful images related to our activities in Earth and space sciences, to be introduced to the wonders of the astronomical sky as well as to have an overview of the work of our institute.
